Havelock North High School had an outstanding week at the recent NZSS summer tournaments. The senior girls’ canoe polo team were the national winners, beating St Peter’s College 4-3 in the final, while the senior boys won division two. The boys’ volleyball team had an equally successful week in Palmerston North, proceeding through the tournament unbeaten to win the division three final against Gisborne Boys’ High School 3-0. Wellington hosted the futsal competition with Havelock North High School senior boys performing well to finish fifth of forty teams, conceding only three goals during the week. The junior boys’ futsal team had a rewarding competition to win the plate final against Cashmere High School, who had decided to continue playing in the tournament, despite losing their 14-year-old goalkeeper in the Christchurch shootings. This boy's mother was present at the final and was a brave reminder to all of us about the power of friendship, resilience, and love that was present amongst all the supporters. Year 10 student Reuben Crossland won the Golden Boot award as the highest goal scorer in the junior boys’ tournament, with fourteen goals.
