HNHS hosts its first Young Leaders Day

On Thursday, 4th August, Forum (year 13 leadership group) hosted the first ever Havelock North High School Young Leaders Day.  The committee invited 36 students from Havelock North Intermediate and 23 students from Hereworth School to the function.  The students started the day with a powhiri in the school auditorium before splitting into three groups.  Each group was facilitated by Forum members and students were taken through a series of activities including team-building exercises, leadership discussions, physical challenges and games designed to develop communication skills.  The students rotated around the sessions throughout the day and the year 13 students got a taste of what it must be like to be a teacher!
Mid-way through the function the guest speaker for the day, Mr Wayne Forrest, presented to the group.  Wayne was a very accomplished rugby player and farmer until a rugby accident in 1996 confined him to a wheelchair.  Since then he has gone through a remarkable rehabilitation process and now runs a farm in Takapau and is involved in numerous leadership and youth development initiatives.  Wayne’s inspiring address was followed by a barbecue lunch and the final afternoon session.
The school would like to thank Forum for the effort and thought they put into this excellent event.
